CHROMATICS // THE DRIVE OF YOUR LIFE
This was the opening track to the recent FUCK YEAH RYAN GOSLING film Drive. Whilst the rest of the film’s soundtrack side-winded between contemporary compliments (OST by Cliff Martinez) and drippy shit (not so OST by the drug damaged ex-girlfriends of all the Ed Banger DJs) - this song stood out.
A calm, collected and casual minimal techno piece but with a perfect amount of suspense. A great opener for a film which excitement levels mimic the pattern in the below soundcloud player.

HUDSON MOHAWKE // 25/8
‘Party Animal’ is off his Pleasure Principles EP which features remixes of Aaliyah, R Kelly and Janet Jackson.

MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE // NOT HATE
L.O.V.E was an exclusive MCDE track off his latest DJ Kicks compilation.
After wriggling is finger around in his beautiful moustache, DJ/Producer Kyle Hall got a ghost to re-record the samples, turned the soul claps into a muggy thump and made it 50% longer.
The result is a reinvention that is perfect for hill gazing out a train window as much as it is for femme gazing on the dancefloor.

CANT // THE QUESTION
New track from Chris Taylor, largely the bassist but the preferred term is probably ‘multi-instrumentalist’ from Grizzly Bear.
Not the most positive of names for his side project CANT, but the track ‘Answer’ proves that Grizzly Bear is made up of dynamic individuals whom are more than capable of experimenting. After Department of Eagles‘ (the side project of Grizzly Bear member Daniel Rossen) plausible but unaffectionate work, ‘Answer’ is an unexpected 4 minutes which dare I say gets a bit R’n’B when he starts saying ”It’s been a while since you needed me/Its been a while since I needed you too”?
Google Image search him. Still swear he is made from porcelain.

WEEKENDS // IN RAINCOATS

It’s almost the weekend guys. Turn it up and let this song guide you there.

‘Raingirls’ is by Weekends and thats about all I know apart from they’re from Baltimore. MORE good shit from Baltimore.

It opens this rad compilation called Tape Fear which features the likes of Fang Island, Dum Dum Girls, Total Slacker and loads of bands that are more successful then any band I’ll ever be in even though they give a fraction of a fuck.

FRIENDLY FIRES // SEIJI MY NAME

Seiji remix of Hawaiian Air, from their recent album PALA.

Big party tropical riddim written all over it - listen to those tom-toms! Coconut bras at the ready.

JOHN MAUS // THE CITY HATES YOU

‘Head For The Country’ is taken from Maus’ recent album We Must Become The Pitiless Censors of Ourself

There’s a certain expectation you have from a record by a German-sounding artist with a long winded title, but this goes against the grain.

It’s a melting pot of colliding synths, basslines played on a keyboard and underwater warbling. Makes you feel like you’re presenting an 80s version of The National Lottery in a oversized grey suit.

It’s out on Upset The Rhythm in Europe. Well done to them.

VICTOIRE // A TRIBUTE

Went to the new record shop next to Barden’s Boudoir on Kingsland Road earlier. On the wall was a 2004 original press of Arthur Russell’s Calling Out Of Context.

The cover itself is enough of a tear jerker, redolent of the tracks within - ‘Get Around To It’ being a particular highlight.

Victoire’s ‘A Song For Arthur Russell’ knits string parts around flickering sighs and is a more than fitting tribute.

AZTEC GARDEN // 0000000000001

In a brand new show for London Fields Radio, long time friends and music lovers Rachel and Luke take you for a walk through the Aztec Garden. It’s a trip full of the newest and most exciting music from their favourite acts as well as regular features like ‘Good Cover Version’, ‘Across the Pond’ and ‘Labels and Fables’. Together, these form a very enjoyable bundle of music, which is almost enough to distract from their amateur production, nervous rambling and constant battle to stop saying “enjoy”.
This week, Nick Cave covers Pulp, Frank Ocean travels Across the Pond and we hear some Fables from Oneman’s 502 recordings Label. Plus other music from Tropic of Cancer, Africa Hi-Tech and The 2 Bears.
